Exercise 1
Conrad's exercise: Pick an animated character of your choice and write a 5-7 sentence prompt using that character as your protagonist. Michelle: Tinkerbell flew over fantasyland, keeping her wand ready and keeping an eye out for pirates. She knew that in order for the plan to work, she needed to give Peter as much time as possible before the Pirates discovered what he was up to. She heard a shout from below and swerved to avoid a knife thrown in her direction. She threw a handful of pixie dust into the air to give Peter a signal and slowed down to allow the Pirates to catch up. She kept just ahead of them as she led them around adventure land. Tinkerbell was starting to tire as she saw Peter fly up just behind her and she dropped down as the Pirates, looking up instead of where they were going ran right into the trap. Conrad: With a gasp, Hiccup dove back into the house he had just exited, and reached instinctively for his knife. Then he slapped himself on the forehead, “Darn, I forgot again! Having dragons around takes a bit of getting used to!” He sauntered out of the building and nodded to the dragon who had scared him a few seconds ago, a Monstrous Nightmare with a particularly hairy Viking sitting astride him. He looked around for Toothless, but the Night Fury was nowhere to be seen! Suddenly Hiccup was tackled from behind by 500 pounds of dragon, and he landed hard, with Toothless on top. Hiccup groaned, “Do you always have to jump me when I’m exiting the lodge?” Hello y'all!
We started roughly on time and we had Julia, Maria 1, Patrick, Michelle, Conrad, Luke, and myself attend. We did an exercise that Conrad provided and one from Julia (I think) and we brainstormed for Sabrina's story and how to make everything harder for her characters. Julia has assured me that next week we will do one of my prompts (finally). 😝 Then a few of us hung around and had emoticon wars and listened to music and random stuff like that. 😊 Announcements: * Everyone needs to read pgs 1-5 in Description and Setting by next week's meeting. *Leggy will (hopefully) be updating the website with our exercises and the recap. *Our Honorary Member of the Week is Tiana aka Bofur! Her theme song will be posted soon! *We will be changing the day and/or time of the meetings soon - I'll send you all an email when it's confirmed. *Check the website for your writing buddy! 😁http://fellowshipofthepen.weebly.com/ Gandalf/Mary’s Exercise Listen to 3 songs then write a 1-2 paragraph story from the ideas the song gives you. The songs do not have lyrics so you’ll have to use the originality and creativity we all know you have. 1. Starry by Kevin Micleod 2. Fukorama by Kevin Micleod 3. Touching Moments by Kevin Micleod Patrick aka Gimli: 3. Kaladin dropped his spear and shield with shock. his world started to spin, he couldn't even think he couldn't even comprehend what just happened. He rushed over to the very still --too still--body of his younger brother...
"Tien? please no, please! I was supposed to protect you." tears started to well up in Kaladins eyes, and he slumpt over the lifeless body of his younger brother. he rocked the body of his younger brother back and fourth like how Kals mother used to when he was a baby. arrows whized overhead the battle still raging like a storm, but to Kaladin itdidnt matter anymore. wet drops of sorrow began to spill from Kaladins face, and drip unto the pale body of Tien. "No... this wasnt supposed to happen... Ipromised mother." Kaladin said in teary gulps. he rested the body down onto the bloodied dirt and there he layed next to his brother one last time. His world was now seemingly over. Tien was the only thing that kept him going... and now... No, these things where no longer important. Kal wiped the blood off his brother's face and held him close on the dirt. Sabrina aka Legolas: 3. Derrak stared out across the hushed kingdom from the window of his bedchamber. It seemed the kingdom was always hushed. Perhaps, it was just because his heart was silent and cold like the first winter frost. He still couldn’t believe Dev was gone. Why couldn’t I have done more? He thought. I should have done more. The images flashed through his mind of Dev being thrown by the dragon, smashed into walls, buried by rubble. His eyes pleading, begging him to leave. Why did I leave him? How could I leave him? He pounded his fist into the stone ledge that formed the window sill. He punched it repeatedly, until his fist was cut and leaving a pool of blood in the indentations in the stone. His fist slowed. A tear landed in the puddle, sending ripples through the red liquid. I wish I had died in his place. Well, guys here’s the Skype Recap! While the meeting wasn’t as structured or maybe even as fun as it is with Julia presiding as the “overlord” I quite enjoyed myself. Even though I hate leading the meetings. So I hope you all had fun.
We started around twenty minutes late due to technical difficulties (thanks Patrick :P). We were joined by Aragorn, Merry, Sam, Boromir, Fili, and Bofur, with myself and Gimli presiding as “overlord” and “extreme underling” (or something like that anyway). (And yes, I like using our nicknames). Mary aka Gandalf was our appreciation person this week, however she was not able to join us. But she provided us with a very interesting exercise that I personally found very helpful to my story. You can see the details of the exercise and what everyone came up with on the website in the Notebook. Julia will announce the next appreciation week person when she is able. Somehow managing to get ourselves into several debates (including a Marvel debate that nearly got out of hand) we did not get very much accomplished. But after Mary’s exercise we did get another exercise done provided by Patrick. You can see this on the website as well. We went over 10pm EST and I nearly got myself grounded cuz everyone took so long with the last exercise. I got by unscathed though so it’s all good. Just a run through of the announcements again: Please fill out the Birthday form on the website’s home page. If you have exercises that you would like to submit for the meetings on Fridays, please email them to me before Friday. We have a new book of the month for August (which is nearly over, so we’ll be getting a new one for September pretty soon!) and it is Jinx by Sage Blackwood, picked by Maria 2. You need to get the book Description and Setting by Ron Rozelle in two weeks because we will be starting it in two weeks. Julia will be splitting the chapters into smaller chunks so there will be less reading all at once. At the meetings we will discuss what we’ve read and do one of the exercises from the chapter. That’s all! Leggy aka Sabrina |
